This will be a weekend of nutritious food, exercise, education, plus some time for pampering and relaxation!
Hosted by Joanna Nightingale (Personal Trainer) and Miranda Walsh (the owner of Island Heron and also a cordon bleu trained chef).
Island Heron is comprised of a beautiful modernised farmhouse with a separate cottage, located on 10 acres of land with stables and woodland walks on its doorstep.
What exactly does the retreat involve?
In short, you will eat healthily, exercise to the best of your ability, get some fresh air, and leave us having gained a wealth of knowledge about nutrition and exercise that you can apply to your everyday life (and maybe having lost a few pounds!). Furthermore, we want you to enjoy time with each other in a supportive encouraging environment so you feel inspired, yet relaxed.
Fitness: There will be 10 varied sessions during the weekend that will include a mix of activities focusing on cardio, toning, strength, conditioning, balance and flexibility. There will be indoor and outdoor sessions (depending on the weather). Plus you will get 2 months free access to the Nightingale Fitness Online Exercise Plan.
(The 10 sessions may include any of the following: walks, circuit training, yoga or pilates, weights, bodyweight exercises, team work/games, hulahooping and boxercise).
Weightloss: Meals will be balanced and nutritious. There will be plenty of herbal and fruit teas available. Plus you will get a 9 day diet and exercise plan to take away with you.
Education: Joanna Nightingale (Personal Trainer) will show you how to train efficiently and safely, plus advise on fitness options appropriate to each client so that you can maximise the benefits of exercise once you leave.
Plus there will be 2 seminars delivered by local experts (which may include the fields of: nutrition, chiropractic, podiatry, stress, mindfullness).
Wellbeing: Stretching, Meditation, Massage*, Beauty Treatments*.

A full schedule of activities will be provided at the start of the weekend, however here is a summary:
3pm: Arrive, welcome and cuppa, private consultation with Joanna (including optional body metric assessment), evening meal.
Saturday - Sunday
Full programme of exercise, seminars and pampering scheduled around mealtimes and snacks.
Early rise, evaluation with Joanna (including optional body metric assessment), breakfast, depart by 10am.
Who comes to Nightingale Fitness Health and Fitness retreats?
This retreat is for women of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels. Women come to these kind of retreats for many different reasons - to improve their fitness, to kickstart a healthier lifstyle, to get advice and learn more about exercise or nutrition, and sometimes simply to get away and challenge themselves. Your reasons for coming and your goals are really important to Joanna and she will ensure you get what you want out of your time at the retreat.
Am I fit enough?
Whatever your fitness level or ability, you will see improvements and achieve results, even over just a weekend. There will be plenty of options, modifications and progressions to cater for all levels. Everybody will be motivated and supported so that they achieve their own individual goals. However, if you have any concerns at all, please contact Joanna ahead of booking and she will be happy to address any worries you may have.
I have an injury, illness or health problem, is that ok?
This information will be collected upon booking and we will cater accordingly, but if you have any concerns at all, please contact Joanna ahead of booking to discuss.
What is the accommodation like?
There is a choice to stay in the main house or the cottage. Both are charming and have plenty of space. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, a large sitting room, plus a separate kitchen and two bathrooms. The house has 3 bedrooms for guests and plenty of communal areas for relaxing and a dining room for mealtimes. Both the house and cottage have internet access and a television, which guests are welcome to make use of. The grounds are also beautiful! Plus Miranda (our host) will be staying the whole weekend so we will be very well looked after. All towels and bed linen are provided.
If I want to come alone but I want to book a twin room, who will I share with?
You will share a room with a fellow recruit. This is common with these kind of retreats. People often book alone and end up making good friends with the other attendees. It is a very positive and engaging experience so people often make close bonds quickly.
Where is the retreat and how do I get there?
The retreat is located in the peaceful countryside village of Wolverton Common (about 20 minutes from Newbury/Thatcham and very near to Tadley/Kingsclere). You will be provided with the address upon booking.
Can I park at the retreat?
Yes there is plenty of space for parking for all attendees although car sharing can be arranged for attendees living locally. Please request upon booking.
What will I have to eat during the retreat?
Balanced meals and snacks, plus plenty of fluids.
Am I allowed to bring my own food and drink?
This is discouraged because the menu (meals, snacks and fluids) is designed to give you everything you need.
Will I be hungry?
The meals and snacks will be designed to provide all the calories and nutrients you need so you should not be hungry. If you are, please do not hesitate to tell Joanna.
Should I notify Nightingale Fitness about allergies or dietary requirements?
Absolutely! As above, this information will be collected upon booking and we will cater accordingly, but if you have any concerns at all, please contact Joanna ahead of booking to discuss.
What does the 9 day calorie controlled diet and exercise plan involve?

What do I need to bring with me to the retreat?
Bucketloads of enthusiasm, a positive supportive mindset and a smile! In addition to that, a full kit list will be provided with the joining instructions once you have booked. However, you are not required to bring any equipment or food/fluids.
Can I bring my man/dog?
I'm afraid not. This retreat is for ladies only and absolutely no furry friends (whether human or beast!) Although a very friendly dog does live in the house!
When will you provide a full itinerary of activities?
When you arrive you will given an outline of what will be happening throughout the weekend. However we do like to keep some details back!
I will be late arriving/early departing, will that be ok?
We will be as flexible as possible with arrival and departure times. Please just inform us upon booking. However, as the availability and pricing is based on all attendees staying and fully participating in the whole retreat, a discount will not be provided.
Are the activities indoor or outdoor? What happens if it is cold/wet/snowy etc?
There is space available indoor and outdoor so we will keep a good eye on the weather and adjust the schedule appropriately to ensure you are comfortable to the best of our ability. This is a retreat and we want people to be in the best of spirits so I can assure you we will do everything in our power to make appropriate arrangements considering the weather. Although it is still very important to be prepared and to bring what is on the kit list.
Do I have to attend every fitness session?
Everyone is encouraged to attend all the sessions, unless there's a really good reason why this is not possible. This is because it shows respect, support and encouragement to the other ladies in the group (effectively your team for the weekend!). Some people will look forward to some activities more than others but you never know what you might unexpectedly enjoy or be really good at. Plus imagine how sad it might be if you were looking forward to a session and you were the only one to turn up?!
Will I have any free time?
Yes of course, there will be time to relax between sessions and also in the evenings. And there is plenty of communal space to sit with others or have some quiet time alone.
What pampering options are there and how much are the treatments?
You will be provided this information with the joining instructions so you can book in advance to secure availability, and your payment will be made directly to the therapist at least 21 days before the start of the retreat.
Are there spa facilities at the retreat?
There is a newly refurbished outdoor swimming pool and summerhouse for use during the warmer months. However, this will not be in use over winter. There are no other spa facilities although there are options nearby.
Can I bring a partner to stay with me in the room and join mealtimes even if they do not want to partake in any of the activities?
Availability and pricing is based on all attendees staying and fully participating in the whole retreat, however if there are available spaces for guests then this might be possible although not in the first instance.
Is there a first aider?
Yes, Joanna is REPS (Register of Exercise Professionals) registered, fully insured and is first aid trained.
What happens if there are not enough bookings for the retreat to run?
There will be a minimum number of attendees required to sign up in order for the retreat to run; if this minimum number is not achieved then you will be notified at least 5 days before the first day and provided with a full refund.
How do I book?

A £50 non-refundable deposit will be taken upon booking and then you will be issued an invoice which must be paid within 3 working days to secure your booking.
